He expanded the company and later opened the GunRunner Boutique Hotel in Florence, Alabama, to celebrate local culture. Today, he successfully manages both his lumber business and the hotel, showing his skill in growing diverse business ventures.

Early Life

Billy Ray Casteel was born in October 1969 in a small town in Alabama. Casteel's professional path began after he graduated from the University of Alabama. His education was a foundation of skills and knowledge that he later applied in his career.

Early Career

Post graduation from the University of Alabama, Casteel entered the lumber business with a foundational role in shipping and receiving. Casteel quickly transitioned to sales, where he spent about seven years, deepening his understanding of the industry. This experience would have deepened his industry knowledge and business acumen, especially in customer relations and market dynamics.

Taking Shape

In 2000, Casteel and a partner acquired Lumber One’s flagship location in Littleville, AL. Following the acquisition of the first location, Casteel expanded his business by adding more locations. In 2002, he added the Sheffield location, and in 2004, expanded to Senoia, Georgia. This expansion indicates strategic growth and success in the lumber business.

As Lumber One continued to grow, Casteel shifted his focus toward business administration, personnel management, and production. This change signifies a move from direct sales to a broader strategic role, overseeing the company’s operations and growth.

Venture into Hospitality

Beyond the lumber industry, Casteel ventured into hospitality by opening the GunRunner Boutique Hotel in 2017. This hotel, located in Florence, Alabama, is a tribute to the local culture and history of the Shoals area. It showcases Casteel's interest in celebrating and preserving local heritage.

Currently, Casteel continues to play a significant role in both his lumber business and the hotel. In the lumber company, he is involved in evaluating the efficiency and profitability of current locations and exploring expansion opportunities. His involvement in the GunRunner Hotel reflects his passion for the community and its history.
