From Ebay to Ecom Empire: The William Rivera Story
Unpacking the Journey of a Resilient Entrepreneur
Good afternoon HAPPY Trailblazers,
How did a young entrepreneur from humble beginnings turn early failures into a thriving e-commerce empire?
Early Life
William Rivera was born to a single mother in Miami, Florida on October 14, 1998. At 5 years old he moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he recalls apartment-hopping and witnessing his family and friends working tirelessly to make ends meet. This lesson taught William that he had to work smart, not hard. Throughout high school, William had around 10 jobs and got fired from all of them for being a terrible employee.
Known For: Ecom Degree University, dropshipping |
Net Worth: Between $6 - $10 million |
Early Career
William’s difficult upbringing made him realize he needed to find a way to make money that didn’t involve traditional employment. At 18, William began to sell shoes and buy iPhones locally to flip on eBay. Around this time, William started attending Georgia Gwinnett College, hoping to find a career path within school.
Bored in class one day, William started researching online ways to make money for his family without trading time for money. He came across two words he had heard in passing, but never knew much about them, e-commerce and dropshipping.
William got a job at LA Fitness to fund his new side hustle and dumped every paycheck into online courses, coaching, and Facebook ads until he learned how to dropship effectively. After thousands of dollars lost and hundreds of courses watched, he finally saw the fruits of his labor and made his first sale.
As soon as I made my first sale, I took the risk of quitting my job so I could focus 100% on the business. I also dropped out of school. I was 100% locked in and I knew there was a huge opportunity in front of me and I had to capitalize on it.
Taking Shape
In the first 3 months, his store made $45,000. William sold the business for $3,000 when he realized his product was no longer selling. Since his first sale, William has been hooked! He has gone on to create multiple stores, some have hit 6-7 figures in annual sales.
After several successful stores and helping many of his friends succeed in dropshipping, the word got out that he had the “sauce.”
Ecom Degree University
Daily William would receive messages asking for guidance in creating a successful dropshipping shop. This was back in 2018 when the word “dropshipping” wasn’t as well known as it is today. William didn’t want to be put in a position to trade time for money, so he decided it would be best to put all of his knowledge into one program.
Ecom Degree University teaches people how to make money online with dropshipping. In 2020 the program caught traction from a viral post showing William making $350,000 in 25 days on Amazon. Their program has helped thousands of people make millions of dollars online.
The course is a series of step-by-step videos on how to execute and thrive in the dropshipping business. Once you join the program, you’re added to a private mastermind group with the other students where you can ask questions and get advice.
If you go on my Instagram and look at my inner circle, those were not the same people I was friends with in high school. As your goals change and mindset changes so do the people that gravitate towards you.
Is it Legit?
Legit in this industry is a loaded question. Has he helped a lot of people make money online? Yes. But, scaling a service like his is a difficult task. William oversimplifies the dropshipping business model for marketing purposes. To be a profitable seller requires time far greater than a couple of hours per week.
Stay bold, stay brilliant!
